River Aire, Bradford Beck
Widespread heavy rain associated with Storm Bert, possibly falling as snow at first, is expected across the Aire catchment, persisting through today (Saturday 23 November 2024). River levels are expected to rise as a result and flooding is possible.
River levels will potentially peak through Leeds on Sunday morning, where flooding is possible. There may be surface water flooding affecting low spots on local roads in areas affected by the heaviest rain. Further rainfall is expected on Sunday 24 November, which is likely to keep rivers high, with additional impacts possible. The most affected areas will be low lying land around the River Aire, particularly from Stockbridge to Castleford, including Bradford Beck, Oulton Beck and Kippax Beck.
We are closely monitoring the situation and our Area Incident Room will be open this weekend. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water or walking near swollen rivers, particularly on Saturday when gale force winds are forecast.

Widespread heavy rain associated with Storm Bert, possibly falling as snow at first, is expected across the Aire catchment from 5a.m Saturday 23 November, persisting through the day. River levels are expected to rise as a result and flooding is possible.
River levels will potentially peak through Leeds on Sunday morning, where flooding is possible. There may be surface water flooding affecting low spots on local roads in areas affected by the heaviest rain. Further rainfall is expected on Sunday 24 November, which is likely to keep rivers high, with additional impacts possible.
The most affected areas will below lying land around River Aire, particularly from Stockbridge to Castleford, including Bradford Beck, Oulton Beck and Kippax Beck.
We are closely monitoring the situation and our Area Incident Room will be open this weekend.

Flooding is possible from the River Aire, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around River Aire from Stockbridge to Castleford, including Bradford Beck, Oulton Beck and Kippax Beck. River Levels are high on the River Aire due to today's persistent heavy rainfall, 22/05/2024. The rain is forecast to continue to move up from the southeast and continue into Thursday morning, 23/05/2024. We have seen a response in the River Aire throughout the day and this is forecast to continue overnight with levels currently forecast to peak at 4.30am at Castleford.
Flooding is possible from the River Aire, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around River Aire from Stockbridge to Castleford, including Bradford Beck, Oulton Beck and Kippax Beck. This alert has been issued on the forecast of tonight’s rain. This rain will move across our catchments from the southwest, starting Thursday evening, 04/04/24, and continuing into Friday morning, 05/04/24. With catchments still wet, we expect to see a response in the river overnight with levels rising through the night before beginning to peak during the morning. The peak around Castleford is expected around lunchtime on Friday.
Areas most at risk include River Aire from Stockbridge to Castleford, including Bradford Beck, Oulton Beck and Kippax Beck.
Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours and river levels could rise again as a result. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

River levels are rising on the River Aire due to heavy rainfall today, 29/01/2024. Areas most at risk include low lying land and roads near to the River Aire both in the Cottingley and Castleford. River levels at Cottingley Bridge are now peaking, while levels downstream at Castleford may peak around 3-5a.m on Tuesday morning. River levels on the middle Aire catchment are expected to gradually fall throughout the day tomorrow. Some further rainfall is forecast this evening and through the early hours of Tuesday morning, but should ease and clear tomorrow. Flooding is possible from 19:00 at Cottingley Bridge with river levels here expected to peak around midnight tonight. Further down the river Aire catchment at Castleford, flooding is possible from around midnight with levels expected to peak between 01:00 and 03:00 tomorrow morning, 30/01/2024. River levels on the middle Aire are expected to gradually fall throughout the day tomorrow.
Some further rainfall is forecast this evening, but should ease and clear tomorrow. We do not currently anticipate we will need to issue any flood warnings, but we will continue to monitor river levels closely and will do if required.

We are not currently expecting rivers to reach the same levels as they have over the last few days. A Flood Warning remains in place for Allerton Ings and A656 Barnsdale Road, meaning flooding is expected in those areas.

River levels are rising due to further heavy rainfall affecting West Yorkshire through this evening, Saturday 9 December.

River levels are expected to remain high as a result of heavy rainfall associated with Storm Debi yesterday and this morning, Tuesday 14/11/2023. We expected levels to remain elevated today and into tomorrow as water moves downstream from the upper catchments. Flooding is possible on low-lying land and roads. Water started to spill into Allerton Ings overnight, however, we do not expect levels in the Ings to rise further or for Barnsdale Road to flood.
Further showers are forecast through today and into Wednesday. Due to the saturated conditions rivers are expected to respond readily to this rainfall. We currently do not expect to have to issue any flood warnings but we are monitoring the situation and will do if required.

This Alert remains in force as water levels in the areas adjacent to the river, such as washlands and flood storage areas remain relatively high, particularly around Mickletown Ings, Lowther Washlands, Allerton Ings, Newton Ings and Fairburn Ings. We anticipate that the washlands will continue to drain although further rain is forecast throughout Tuesday 24/10/23.

We currently expect river levels to peak on Friday morning, 18/11/22, through Cottingley area around 03:00 and through Leeds around 04:00, before falling through Friday daytime. We will continue to monitor the forecast closely.

Due to the saturated conditions and thawing of any lying snow, rivers will respond readily to this rainfall and are likely to be high from the afternoon, overnight into Monday. We are monitoring the situation on a 24-hour basis and will issue flood warnings if properties and communities are at risk. We currently expect an initial peak in river levels around mid-afternoon on Sunday through the Bradford area and through the evening in Leeds. Leeds City Council are planning to operate the weirs to help manage levels through the city tomorrow.

River levels are rising in response to persistent rainfall on Friday, 21/02/2020. River levels are rising and are forecast to remain high during Saturday morning. The rainfall is forecast to continue through into Saturday morning before it will ease. Flooding of low-lying roads and land is possible. However, adjacent washlands contain a significant volume of water and a flood warning remains in place for Newton and Fairburn. Scattered showers are forecast for the first half of this week, however we do not anticipate this to cause an additional significant river level response. River levels have risen as a result of the recent heavy rainfall. Levels in the Middle Aire are currently peaking, but will remain high throughout today (16/02/20). We currently have a flood warning out for Allerton Ings, Barnsdale Road and properties. The spillway at Allerton Ings started to operate this morning (16/02/20) and is likely to operate until 04:00pm this afternoon. We expect Barnsdale Road to flood.

River levels are currently rising in response to rainfall associated with Storm Dennis. Rainfall is expected to continue throughout this evening, 15/02/20, and into Sunday morning, with a period of more sustained rainfall likely from the late evening.
Based on the current forecast, river levels are likely rise steadily until tomorrow morning, peaking around 8-9 a.m through Bradford District, and around lunchtime through Leeds. Current forecasts indicate that peak levels will be below those seen during Storm Ciara, and we do not currently anticipate issuing flood warnings.
Flooding of low-lying roads and farmland is possible this evening and into Sunday.
We have staff in the field and are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths and roads near watercourses and be prepared to act on your flood plan.

Following recent rainfall which has left the ground saturated, river levels are forecast to rise as a result of Storm Dennis. Flooding of properties, roads and farmland is possible this evening and into Sunday. Rainfall is expected to intensify from midday today, 15 February 2020. The current forecast indicates that the river response will begin later this afternoon and is likely to peak in the early hours of Sunday, 16 February.
